Transrapid 1985 - How we could travel by train today (Promotional Film of the German Maglev Train)
In only one and a half decades a totally new transportation system was developed in the Federal Republic of Germany: The Transrapid, a high-speed monorail train using magnetic levitation. This system was tested and demonstrated at a test site in Emsland, Germany - the first of its type and the largest in the world. The new traffic system: Magnetic Levitation Train, Transrapid.
The last version, the 2007-built Transrapid 09, was designed for a cruising speed of 505 km/h (314 mph) and allowed acceleration and deceleration of approximately 1 m/s2 (2.2 mph/s).

China bought the transrapid system in early 2000's and build an express to Shangai Airport, in the 2010's it built the world's largest network of high speed rail but opted for conventional rail due the elevated costs of building Maglevs, nevertheless they didn't stop reasearch and devevolped a brand new train and even built low speed maglevs for some rapid transit lines.

@@Guy-Zero yes, what followed was a wrangled wreck in 5 meter altitude. Almost impossible to rescue people from without special equipment. That isn't at every fire department in some cases not even on county level. If you compare the transrapid crash where 23 of 31 passengers died to the Train crash of Eschede where of around 220 passengers 107 survived the problem is obvious. If you scale the whole thing up to make it more than a test track, the chances for human error just increase by magnitudes due to complexity but also due to demand and the needed integration with other systems like traintracks and the Autobahn-network.

Always wanted to go to Emsland to ride it but then there was the accident. I did get to ride the one in Shanghai which was great but really too short to be of any real use. Word of warning about Shanghai, It goes from the airport to the outskirts of Shanghai and when you get to the terminus there are no other transport connections so you are stuck. They were going to continue to the city center but the project was stopped for some reason so all you can do really is ride back to the airport what a waste.

The European bias and errors in this are numerous and unforgivable. This is nothing more a 380 advert and is presented as romantic wonderful dream with lush lengthy bios of Airbus execs, vs the "Oh by the way" 747, not mentioning that the A380 has so much wasted space inside that they could've fit another 100+ passengers in it making it an economic success instead of the instant failure it was except for multi millionaire and Saudi Oil princes/travelers who could afford the high ticket prices. Then there's the sloffing off of American terminology and culture. That's not a Pontiac; it's a Chevrolet Camaro at 18:44. The jet is correctly called a 7-forty-7 at 19:21, not a 7-4-7 as the narrator repeatedly mangles it.

He have many valid arguments about the technologies of our era. Engines are becoming very efficient on fuel "BURNING and CO2 emmision is reduced. Still airplanes and rockets are among the major cintributors to our climate crisis. 2% is very huge amount polution. It will increase earth tempratures by significant amount unless that CO2 is recycled. Don't belive ask engine engineers. Thier primarly focus cost cut for operators when they design an Engine. The other point is the synethetic carbonfiber will be our future nightmare. Unlike Aluminium or other metals it can't be recycled, it's dust is very hazardus, and it is difficult to destroy when not need. We are going away from plastics today, but we will have a headhech from stockpile of that material in the future. Now is this not a polution?
